As Head, Technology - Global Banking & Markets, you are a results-oriented executive with a rich history of successfully leading change, aligning technology with strategic business needs and positioning organizations for sustainable growth through technology solutions. Your performance will ultimately demonstrate ability to represent Mexico region, and you will have a lot of contact with Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru.
You will be accountable for all technology deliverables in Global Banking & Markets with priority focus on Global Capital Markets businesses including Fixed Income, Derivatives, Equities, Foreign Exchange, Commodities, and Global Wholesale Operations.
You will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight to technology functions for all Technology - Global Banking & Markets teams, including Architecture, Execution, Support, and Operations. Key responsibilities include: ensuring strategic roadmap and architecture is aligned to local and global Scotiabank requirements; managing multiple, multi-disciplinary, and mission critical projects to execute solutions to business needs; developing strategic plans and policies to effectively support the business units; making sure all checks and balances are in place operationally, including but not limited to budgets, risk evaluations, resourcing, facilities.

Demonstrate capability to expand leadership. Foster and manage relationships with all internal & external stakeholder groups, working especially closely with COO LATAM and Global Banking & Markets business heads in LATAM.
Direct the management of all IT functions which involves planning and scheduling resources, defining business requirements and systems processes, developing business case proposals, securing user and management approval, developing testing, conversion and implementation strategies, budgeting and cost tracking, ensuring solutions implemented meet user requirements and providing on-going user support. You will also be required to directly manage multi-disciplinary, complex, mission critical projects.
Direct the management of the group by ensuring that cost effective application systems are being developed to meet the business line objectives by analyzing user requirements; providing detailed technical designs; investigating and recommending new technology; developing and delivering prototypes using rapid application development methodology according to departmental standards. Ensure alignment with GWWRT – GCM Technology team from Toronto.
Direct the business support to the business units including new and existing product structuring, risk measurement and management, ad hoc queries and MIS, user training, and designing and implementing new systems or enhancements.
Effectively manage and administer the Technology - Global Banking & Markets units by preparing project budgets, project plans, status reports and reliably managing the personnel function. This includes recruiting and maintaining qualified staff, keeping turnover low and ensuring staff maintain up to date knowledge on technological trends, business practices and the Division's business and technology strategies.
Creates an environment in which your team pursues effective and efficient operations of your respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
At least 15 years of practical experience is required. A recognized post-graduate degree in business, econometrics, mathematics or a related discipline is an asset.
Fluency in English is mandatory. Fluency in Portuguese is a plus. Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation skills in English are essential. Cross-cultural leadership experience is a must.
You must have recognized expertise and knowledge of most financial markets and financial instruments (especially Fixed Income, Derivatives, Equities, Foreign Exchange, Commodities), including market conventions and valuation methods, risk management methodologies and models including best practices, performance measurement, current and anticipated regulatory requirements, back office processes, business operations and product control, and the end-to-end workflows amongst Front, Middle, and Back Offices.
You must possess an excellent understanding of current Enterprise Delivery practices, systems development techniques; real-time analytical and formal modelling tools, and keep current with rapidly changing technology to effectively apply technology to the solution of a business problem. Specific knowledge of multiple computing platforms, Web based technologies, database management systems, data communications, networks, object oriented technology, data architecture, hardware and operating system configuration is required.
